Static caravans at Caerfai Bay

Although we have a waiting list, those on the list do not require a caravan just yet. We do have one pitch available for the 2027 season. The potential caravan would have to be to our specifications and available for delivery by the end of February 2027 i.e. before we open for that season. When other pitches come available, this page will be updated .

From its instigation, there have always been a mixture of static caravans and tourers at Caerfai in the caravan field (at present approximately half are static pitches and the rest touring in the first field – the caravan field). Until the late 1960’s, the static caravans had to be moved off site and stored in the ‘back field’ rather like cars in a car park!  With the advent of drainage and electricity, the site licence was amended so the static caravans, now connected to both, could remain on their pitches throughout the winter period as long as they were unoccupied during that time.

Our present season for the static caravans runs from 1st March to either the first or second weekend in November; the end of season is flexible and often depends on the amount of ground work needed in the winter months, but also on weather conditions.  For the winter months all static caravans are ‘drained  down’ – this is for the normal water supply; caravans with central heating, do not have that circuit drained down.

Specific for Caerfai:
The caravan should be used for holiday accommodation, and not as a place of work.  Close friends and family may also use the caravan, but there should be no sub-letting.

Due to its beautiful coastal location, Static caravans have to be in environmental colours from the manufacturer.  They cannot be painted green to suit a second-hand caravan. In addition, they have to have fully galvanised chassis. (Not the ‘pre-galvanise’ as these do corrode at the joins)

Once these caravans are 15 years old, they  need to be replaced; this normally means they will have 16 summer seasons at Caerfai if sited here from new. Because of the narrowness of parts of the Caerfai Road, the length and width of new caravans is limited to a maximum of 12ft wide, and 39ft long.

Annual charges
Pitch fees at Caerfai: with its location – the stunning views and proximity to St Davids, you will find annual fees are very reasonable.  For 2026 these are £3000.00 plus VAT. They do increase every year as do the Council rates.  This year Council rates are £175.00 plus VAT for a static caravan.  Each static caravan has an electricity meter, and electric charges are worked out on electric usage.  Gas supply is by 19Kg cylinders, and each cylinder is charged accordingly.

Cost for your caravan at Caerfai
New caravans range from £50,000 upwards, and there are three caravan dealers that normally deliver to us. If you are interested, we can send you details.  They are all very happy for you to view caravans they have in stock, alternatively, caravan shows are now on at various locations in September.

We normally site the caravan ourselves and, depending on the amount of pitch preparation, this may cost up to £1000.00, with possible extras for chains/anchors etc. Connection to drainage, water and electricity are also charged, and we can give further details on request. Most owners now like to have decking; the design has to be approved by us and we usually have a contractor to build these.  Costs would depend on size and design.
