MAY

Early April to end of September – St Davids Oriel y Parc Visitor Centre and Landscape Gallery. Artist in Residence – Grahame Hurd-Wood. Grahame trained at Camberwell and the Royal Academy of Art in the late 1970s/early 80s. He settled in St Davids in 1985. His paintings are vibrant and atmospheric and are mostly done in situ with art subjects including animals, landscapes and portraits in oil and watercolour. His work is widely shown throughout Wales, England and Ireland.

Saturday 16th March to Monday  8th JulySt Davids Oriel y Parc Visitor Centre and Landscape Gallery. New exhibits – Spirit of Place: Sutherland and the Romantic Landscape. This exhibition takes, as its starting point, the landscapes painted by the artist Graham Sutherland following his discovery of Pembrokeshire in the 1930s.

 

Monday 20th – 10am – 4pm. Lumps, Bumps and Ridges. A six mile exploration of the St Davids Peninsula. A chance to scramble and explore the rocky outcrops (involves fairly strenuous routes on steep ground). £3.50 for adults, £2.50 for concessions. Booking essential 01437 720392

 

Wednesday 22nd – 7pm – 10pm. Twilight Zone. Celebrate the long summer evenings and see local landmarks in their evening attire on this short, three mile walk with stunning views. Bring a torch. £3.50 for adults, £2.50 for concessions. Booking essential 01437 720392

 

Friday 24th – Sunday 2nd June St Davids Cathedral Music Festival. Brochure available now.

 

Friday 24th – 10am – 4pm. Map Reading and Navigation. Learn to use a map and compass. Plan your own routes rather than follow a guide book. Everything for the beginner to the expert on this full day out. £3.50 for adults, £2.50 for concessions. Booking essential 01437 720392

 

Monday 27th – 12.30pm – 4pm.Cliffs, Caves and Cwms. More than just a day at the beach. Exploring and challenging fun for the more adventurous family (children 8_ years). Suitable clothing for scrambling advised. £3.50 for adults, £2.50 concessions. Booking Essential 01437 720392

 

Tuesday 28th – 1pm – 3.30pm. St Davids Airfield; what lies beneath? A haven for wildlife where a mysterious set of footprints is a reminder of more peaceful times, swept away by the shadow of war. This leisurely afternoon walk uncovers the secrets of the airfield. £3.50 for adults, £2.50 concessions. Booking Essential 01437 720392

 

Tuesday 28th – 8.30pm – 10pm. St Davids Bishops’ Palace. Brilliant Bats. A partnership event with the CADW team . Family friendly walk to look for bats, listen to their calls on special detectors and learn about their unusual lifestyles. Bring a torch. Adults £5, £2.50 concessions. Wednesday 29th – 10am. Porth Clais Harbour. Crab Catching. A great fun activity for all the family. Tackle provided. £3.50 per child, adults free. Meet the Park Ranger at Porth Clais Harbour.

Wednesday 29th – 1pm – 4pm. Beaches, Bird and Burial Chambers. Take a closer look at hidden gems around St Davids head. Friday 31st – 1pm – 4pm. Family Treasure hunt at St Davids Airfield. A buggy and wheelchair friendly challenge for all the family. Follow the clues round the airfield for a chance to win a prize. £3.50 for adults and £2.50 for concessions. Booking essential 01437 720392

 

Friday 31st – 2pm – 4.30pm. A Walk in the Past – an Archaeological Guided Walk. Join the National Trust and our National Park archaeologist on a walk to discover the history on some of the area’s ancient sites. Meet in Whitesands Car Park, £6 per person, concession £4. Friday 31st – 6.30pm – 8.30pm. Leisurely Lighthouse Walk. A one mile cliff-top stroll near Strumble head ending with a guided tour around the lighthouse, Bring a torch. Saturday 7th- 10am – 4pm. Christmas Market.St DavidsOriel y Parc Visitor Centre and Landscape Gallery. The perfect opportunity to stock up before Christmas. Buy local products, art, crafts and lots of other goodies, then call into the café for mulled wine and mince pies. Santa will also be here, sitting snugly in his grotto waiting to meet the children. Free admission.
